At a glance
Urgent, constant urination resolved once the underlying bladder and lung inflammation cleared — back to a normal, comfortable rhythm.
Presentation
A 55-year-old patient came in troubled by urgent, frequent urination — a near-constant need to go that interrupted her days and made it hard to feel comfortable away from a washroom. It is the kind of complaint that quietly reshapes a person's routine, and she was keen to find relief.
Diagnosis
On examination — including pulse diagnosis — the pattern pointed to inflammation involving the urinary bladder and the lungs. In TCM the lungs and bladder are linked through the body's water pathways: the lungs sit at the top of this system and help govern how fluids descend and are processed below. When heat and inflammation disturb this relationship, the bladder becomes irritable and urgent. Clearing that inflammation was the key to settling the urgency.
Treatment
Treatment used a focused selection of points to drain the inflammation and restore normal bladder function:
- RN-3 (Zhongji) and RN-4 (Guanyuan) — front-line points low on the abdomen, with RN-4 needled toward RN-3, used to regulate the bladder and calm urinary urgency
- LU-1 (Zhongfu) and LU-10 (Yuji) — Lung-channel points — LU-10 in particular helps clear heat and inflammation from the system that governs the body's fluids
- the 'earth' point ST-34 (Liangqiu) and the 'wood' point LR-2 (Xingjian) — selected through five-element balancing to clear heat and support the organs driving the pattern
Result
The pulse signs of inflammation resolved, and urination returned to a normal, comfortable rhythm. With the underlying heat cleared, the constant urgency that had been organising her days simply lifted.
