What We Treat

Pain Relief & Injury Recovery

This page was reviewed by Dr. Laura Cowburn, Doctor of TCM and Registered Acupuncturist in Alberta.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are highly effective for both acute and chronic pain. At Wellspring Health we use acupuncture to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, relax tight muscles, calm the nervous system, and encourage the body’s natural healing. Many patients come to us for a natural alternative to pain medication, or after other treatments haven’t delivered lasting relief. Where it helps, treatment is paired with Chinese herbal medicine to support recovery between sessions.

We commonly treat neck and shoulder pain, back pain (upper, middle, and lower), hip and knee pain, elbow pain, foot pain and plantar fasciitis, chest and abdominal pain, migraines and headaches, TMJ and jaw pain, bruxism (teeth grinding), scoliosis-related pain, neuropathy and nerve pain, sciatica, arthritis, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, trigger finger, sports injuries, tendonitis, repetitive strain injuries, and gout.

Back pain

Acupuncture for back pain is commonly used for lower back pain, upper back pain, herniated discs, muscle strain, and arthritis pain. Many patients experience reduced pain, improved mobility, and faster recovery over a course of treatment.

Migraines and other headaches

Acupuncture is a natural, effective option for migraines and other headaches. Treatment focuses on reducing frequency, intensity, and triggers by improving circulation and calming the nervous system. We see this regularly in Calgary patients, including those affected by Chinook headaches.

Neck and shoulder pain

Acupuncture can help with chronic neck pain, stiff neck, whiplash injuries, and “tech neck” posture and pain, as well as shoulder conditions such as frozen shoulder, rotator cuff tears, rotator cuff tendinitis, subacromial bursitis, and general shoulder tension. By easing muscle tension and inflammation, it relieves pain and restores range of motion.

Sciatica

Sciatica pain can travel from the lower back down the leg and be genuinely debilitating. Acupuncture helps reduce nerve inflammation, relieve muscle tension, and improve mobility, so you can return to normal activity.

Arthritis and joint pain

Acupuncture can reduce inflammation, improve joint mobility, and decrease pain from arthritis and chronic joint conditions. Treatment is often paired with TCM herbal formulas to support long-term joint health.

Hand and foot pain

Acupuncture is an effective, drug-free option for hand and foot pain. By stimulating specific points, it increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and prompts the release of the body’s own pain-relieving endorphins.
