At a glance
Persistent spotting between periods stopped the day after a single acupuncture treatment.
Presentation
A 43-year-old patient had continuous spotting for more than seven days between periods, which was affecting her quality of life.
Diagnosis
In TCM terms, the abnormal uterine bleeding was caused by Spleen Qi deficiency. In TCM the Spleen acts as the “governor” of blood, keeping it flowing smoothly within the vessels. When Spleen Qi is deficient it can’t hold the blood, which can cause abnormal uterine bleeding.
Treatment
- Ear seeds — Dr. LiChun Huang’s combination for uterine bleeding
- Acupuncture: SP-1 (Yinbai) and SP-2 (Dadu) — SP-1 is the well point of the Spleen meridian and is good at stopping bleeding. SP-2 is the mother point of the Spleen meridian, which can tonify the Spleen and strengthen Spleen Qi.
Result
The bleeding stopped the day after the treatment.
